Musubi Dojo takes its lead from the vision of its founders and chief instructors: sensei Ronald Rubin and Susan Perry. Both sensei were trained to be college professors in Philosophy. Sensei Rubin has been teaching for over 35 years at the Claremont Colleges and Sensei Perry taught philosophy for 10 years in the California State University system.

They both began their Aikido study in 1978. As editors of Aikido Today Magazine (1987-2005), their training has been unique and broad.

Since their meager beginning in 1978, Sensei Perry and Rubin have co-founded the dojo as well as Arete Press (which is the mother company for Aikido Today Magazine and Aiki.com) and Aiko Institute (a non profit 501c3 educational institute based on the principles of Aikido). In all of these endeavors, Sensei Rubin and Perry view themselves as following the teachings of Aikido's founder: Morihei Ueshiba O-Sensei.

Sensei Rubin's clarity of thought and scholarly attitude are revealed in the clear cut nature of the dojo's curriculum, testing requirements, management style as well as in his own teaching style. His classes serve as a strong reminder of martial form and effective movement. Sensei Perry's systematic thinking and love of beauty are expressed in the artistic atmosphere of the dojo as well as in her creative manner of teaching. Both of these teachers express their devotion to the art of Aikido through the energy they give to the continual development and growth of Musubi Dojo, Aiki.com and Aiko Institute.
