Musubi Dojo enjoys a lively relationship to other Aikido teachers around the world. Sensei Sugawa teaches children in Kumano City in Japan. Susan Sensei met him on one of her trips to the Kumano Hongu Taysha (the 2,000 year old shrine) with Mary Heiny sensei. Sensei Susan has visited there many times and the Musubi Dojo kamidana (spirit house) and paintings of the rooster and tiger which sit on the shomen come from this place. Susan sensei has interviewed the present priest as well as his father several times. Also the three legged crow and the mitsue that make up Musubi Dojo's logo come from this area of Japan.
